Doing our bit for the convo mag

Thursday was one of those rare moments where I see many of my classmates gathering around an area in IMU, giving a bit of their time for a good cause. Good cause here means raising money to fund the publication of our convocation magazine! We're poor so, i guess this is charity for the budding pharmacists of B105. Donations, anyone?

The carwash activity kicked off at around 11.30am with a splash! Buckets of water were thrown on cars whose owners have signed up for a car wash and my classmates were busy scrubbing and wiping away all the grime and dirt off those car surfaces for half a day. We had the full support of pharmacy and medical lecturers as well as the staff of IMU. I guess when you work in a medical institution, your life is so hectic you won't have time to spend washing your car. Anyway, to have future pharmacists washing your car is a very opportunity ok! Berkorban demi duit hehe.

I was the photographer for the day. Well, I was till Wai Leong stole my camera away to take camwhore pictures of himself which i furiously deleted off.

Miss Gayung and Miss Sponge

This two never stop fighting. Here we go...Wai Leong and Fay Jin. Round 1. FIGHT!

Big boys washing big car. I see some muhibah activity around here=) haha.

The girls of my class washed the cars too. You go girls!

As for me, well I'm the photographer. Can pose around. You don't expect me to get my hands wet, right? I just had to take a picture with my research partner, Esther.

That's Jason. Checking whose car needs a wash. He and I plan to join the Terry Fox run this Sunday at the Lake Gardens. But I realized that I have to spend my sunday with my family (I promised them I'd come home) which is much more important than any run. Sorry, Jason.

Feeling so guilty with just walking around with a camera and taking pictures while everyone else slaved away. So i changed into my 'working clothes'! Eww sans makeup. Don't look so nice -_-I washed two cars ok...so proud of myself ehehe

Group photo. See that RONALDO...pattern a lot.

Many different colored t-shirts make a pretty picture.

After washing cars, couldn't help but feel a little hungry. Actually, all I crave for at that moment is a McFlurry. So, McDonald's is the place to go!

My Oreo Mudpie McFlurry and fries (which were extra salty that day but I like! Hypertension. oh no!) I must have the Oreo Berries McFlurry next=)

Pan cool la these people.

Eddie, Tai Lo and superstarKianSin. Look at eddie's ultra huge glasses. Quite cool IMO.

My pink Hello Kitty bag. Some people think it's a ridiculous obsession to like pink as much as i do but I don't care. Nah if you cannot tahan then, pls look at my screaming pink nails.

Nothing looks uglier than a mouth full of fries. Thanks Alen for taking this pic -_- Oh yeah, Vista Commonwealth is not safe. My friend, Alen himself, got robbed while riding on his bicycle. Imagine that. Stay safe people! *Angeline is worried*

Oh yeah. I noticed I haven't been eating healthy these days. Not to mention, deprived of good sleep too. In my excitement of trying to finish my thesis early, I've been going to bed like three in the morning. This is bad! panda eyes. oh nooooooo

I'll be going to my friend's open house tmr to celebrate Deepavali. I left my Punjabi suit at home. bummer~ what shall i wear? oh dear. Well, expect some photos posted up on this soon=)

This Sunday. Watching High School Musical 3 with my Ivan and Crystal. I can't wait to see what becomes of Sharpay Evans!

High School Musical 3: Senior Year

And they say Sharpay and I could be sisters!

Love at first bite

I've read Twilight.

Still hanging onto the last chapter of New Moon.

Eclipse is what I want next on my booklist.

I can't wait to buy the last book of the trilogy. I am obssessed with vampires these days. Obsessed with Edward Cullen. His golden eyes fascinate me.

Relieved

We finished our presentations on our research findings last tuesday. And what a relief it was to have it done and over with! We were only given 15 minutes to present our results thus far and another 10 minutes for Q&A session with the evaluators. Questions weren't so hard as i thought they would be^^ lucky me. Though i think i might have exceeded the time limit by a minute or two...i hope they're not so strict to minus marks off that-_-

Ok. Celebration calls! Well, there's nothing much to celebrate about...but we just do. Lunch at Carl's Jr., Midvalley. It's a first. I just think their burgers are too big in porpotion for me. You'll never know how much fat there are in a bite. Take 5 bites and you might just have clogged arteries hours later. But i have friends who really love eating there so i thought i'd try.

Wai Leong finds satisfaction in a small fry.

Wai Leong will eat just about anything. He eats dish after dish of pickles while we wait for our burgers. Somehow, pickles remind me of my best friend, Cheryl. I remember how she love her pickles in her cheeseburgers.

Fay Jin and Ser Li.

I really like the fries. Better than McDonald's and Wendy's. IMO But like i said, the burger was too big. Half a burger made me so full, I had to keep the other half -_- It made me full for dinner too-_-

You want to know how good the burgers are? Look at these people eating THEIR burgers.

Just the fries and the expression is too much already!

When WL is too busy eating his pickles, he helped take photos of us..

After lunch, we had time to do some shopping...and manage to enter the cinema about ten minutes early...till I got distracted with this!

LIVE SIZED PORTRAIT OF ZAC EFRON AND SHARPAY EVANS!

Angel: Zac Efron, you're mine!
Ryan Evans: Hey hey. There you go girl!
Sharpay Evans: Well, if you have to. I'd let anyone BUT Gabriella.

Move aside, Gabriella. Go tap your dancing shoes on someone else.

Did I mention what movie we were watching? It was the House Bunny! Shelley Darlington (played by Anna Faris) has lived at the Playboy mansion for the last nine years. She is Hef's favorite and acts like a den mother to the other girls. On her birthday, she is unceremoniously evicted from Hef's pad for 'being too old.' Homeless and without essential skills, Shelley wanders around L.A. until she finds a new job - the housemother at the most unpopular sorority on campus. It's PG-13 and runs for 1 hour 22 minutes. I gave it a thumbs up because it made me laugh so hard!

More shopping afterwards and then we drove back to IMU (because WL was complaining), picked up Jason and Kok Pun and headed to the night market^^

The first thing we did was to haunt the 'bubble tea house'.

Scary looking right?

I just remembered! Halloween's this Friday.

Enjoying our bubble teas from the 'haunted' tea house. Yam and honeydew flavours are the best!

'Someone' told us that we had to try smelly taufu coz' it's so tasty? But it really is super smelly..the smell can travel to a radius of 200m OMG. you can't escape the smell. I use a lot of smell here but i must emphasize the word smell here. Because it SMELLS! This photo really captures just how the stinking aroma lingers around the toufu. I had a 1/4 and i still don't get why people queue up for it. It's so *gulp*

Jason seems to love it though. He ate two. Fay Jin looks on with disgust^^!

Fruits fruits. I love dragonfruits!

Earrings here are soo cheap! But of course, I won't buy accessories in a night market. Unless...

Mini muffins. the cutest things ever!

nail polish...so many to choose from.

Hello Kitty cake on a stick. Love it~

That's it. A day well spent with friends around you. Nothing beats that.

xoxo

silence

Past relationships. I have cried over them once and yet, my heart was never broken. Do you think of me as being mean?

Splitter splatter. Raindrops hitting softly on my window still. Suddenly, I never felt more lonely.

Graduation dinner

This was one of the graduating classes of 2003..my class - 5 Beta. The memories spent together will forever be etched in my heart♥

It has been 5 years. 5 long years since I left my alma mater and now looking forward, only 9 more months to my graduation from medical school. To say that time flies is no mere exaggeration but the truth in its entirety.

Is black the only color for formal event? Almost everyone wore black that evening. Luckily for them, they have me to compensate for the monotonous choice of colors that people have hehe.

Congratulations Ivan.

I attended my brother's graduation ceremony at the Sheraton, Subang on Friday and am so blessed to be able to make it and be part of this memorable day for Ivan. Ivan, you never looked more distinguished than that evening. Evey inch a young gentleman. This compliment is only valid for 2 days so, don't get your tail wagging up too high =p

Ivan and his comrades. L-R: Edward, the man himself, Terry and Nicky (who is uber obsessed about Ironman and the Transformers). Urgh..you don't want to know what I know about these boys.

My dad and I were his personal photographers for the evening. Well, I took most of them and I'd like to think that I have some talent for photography.

I recall upon my graduation ceremony that was carried out in the Hyatt Saujana. I think my brother had a better choice of hotel this time.

The table arrangement looks so chio♥

I studied in Sri Kuala Lumpur for a good 12 years of my life. Since pre-school! The SriKL experience has played a huge part in moulding me into the individual that I am today. And I am very privileged to be given the opportunity to receive my primary and secondary education in a such prestigious school. This is not an advertisement, mind you.

They say I look like mummy but somehow I don't see it.

Ivan and his erm...oversized buddies hehe

The menu for the night. I always love the first entree served during a chinese dinner. It's usually called the Four Seasons but in Sheraton, they named it the "Sheraton Four Hot and Cold Combination". Whatever the name is, it's my favourite part of the whole dinner. After this, I just breeze through all the other dishes.

The bold and beautiful emcees for the evening.

The beloved principle of SriKL in his moment of thought. To quote him "The heart of education is the education of the heart". And THAT, my friends, is what I believe to be food for the soul.

Mr. Hanif Merican giving out his speech which started out with a pantun from the Minangkabau period, slimed by his thick accent. But kudos for trying!

Did you know that there are altogether like 7 classes for Form 5 alone? 5 Alpha, Beta, Omega, Sigma, Rho, Theta, Gamma...at my time, it wasn't as many as this. just 5 i think. BUT we had to starve our poor stomaches for a whole 2 hours till after the graduation ceremony of all 7 classes are over. Sheesh.

ok skip skip skip...spotlight on my brother.

Oh lookie that's Ivan receiving his certificate and report book from his form teacher, Mrs Shanta. She used to be my form teacher too =)

There's the food. Food was glorious! So far I don't have a single complaint about the food that evening other than the fact i had to wait 2 hours! but no biggie, the food was good so all was forgiven hehe. While we tucked into dishes after dishes of scrumptious chinese cuisine, the multimedia presentations of each class were featured and the students serenaded us with acoustic versions of all the latest emo songs -_- ...

Crystal, you always ruin a potentially good photo! No offense dearie xoxo

After dinner, the students gathered to wish their teachers well and say goodbye. I don't see the reason to do so as they'll still go to school the following week and attend classes. Tradition as it is.

When i look at this photo..I've a very long face, no?

Crystal goes, " Daddy, the flash hurts my eyes".

I heard my dad saying, "My my...our son. He's all grown up. This is a proud moment for him...and for us too, dear."

I'm just happy to have preserved this moment on film.

Ivan, congratulations again. Say hello to college!

xoxo

Ahoy Seremban!

Ola! Remember the blog post where i ranted on about being placed in seremban for my clinical training? Well, this saturday i went to the town of seremban to check out a few places in which we girls might consider staying in for 3 months - a 5-room house or a condominium. Ehehe for me, the word 'condo' has already pushed itself up my list...no need for second thoughts. But there are pro and cons that need to be looked at...so let's see in the end, which one did I choose.

In the car before leaving home. Shades on baby! Ivan couldn't join us on this road trip. Has tuition.

First stop. The house with 5 rooms. This is just a peek of the houses AROUND the area. Didn't take the house that we were considering to stay in because IMO, it looks grotesque! Me no likey. strike one.

And the roads leading to this area are steep, snake-like ones and the place...quiet. Too quiet, in fact. I don't feel a sense of security around here. strike two.

The hospital is not a 5-min walk away like my friend said it is...no freaking way! With hills to climb and bustling roads to cross...cannot la. strike three.

One thing that I hate the most is waiting. Waiting for few minutes or so is fine with me but a whole hour! You've got to be kidding me. When my friend tried to contact the owner of that house for like the hundredth time, he didn't pick up. Hello? Punctuality is a virtue, heard of it?

So many strike outs before looking inside the house. How la.

My dad investigating the crime scene (house compound, actually) with his best impersonation of David Caruso of CSI Miami fame. This old man of mine never fails to make me laugh!

Decided not to wait any longer and moved on to view the condominium. Pit stop at the petrol station - to use the washroom hehe. You didn't expect pictures of me in the toilet now do you?

Little Chrissy and I - just outside the condominium. I think it's called Kondominum Taman Mewah? Security is very tight, won't let us drive in even with the owner taking us around and all that. Inconvenient but good.

I was like 'whoa' when i first stepped in the condo unit. This place is a bit too 'atas' for students leh. Fully furnished and boasting walls that are fully covered with wallpaper with gorgeous ceiling cornices. Oo la la.

It is said that this baby here has Astro! like OMG. Cheers to tv dramas and midnight movies♥ Though I doubt i'll have the time to watch them =(

The bright afternoon light shining through the window that leads to the balcony. Lovely.

The master bedroom. Nice right? So wanna have this room but...we'll just see how it goes with the girls. There will be 6-7 classmates of mine staying together here. There are 3 rooms in total. So 2 to a room.

♥ the mirrors in the master bedroom! Not to mention, full length ones too^^

Big adults busy busy negotiating while i was busy busy taking pictures -_-! The owner is the one in red. Heard he's a rich guy who owns a restaurant and several properties around town. He was quite hesitant in letting me take photos within the unit...but i took these anyway!

Oh lookie..a swimming pool♥ Just a few steps away from the door...so if i ever get stressed from clinical training in the hospital, I'd just jump into the pool and swim my worries away!

The kind owner then took us to the highest floor...which is like only the 9th floor^^! And you can see Hospital Tuanku Jaafar..about 15 minutes away. Five bucks by taxi. See the huge building there? Yup that's it.

No brownie points for guessing which one I have decided to stay in. Pretty obvious duh~ Problem is no internet connection. NOOOOOO! But easily solved...go wireless in IMU la. It's just 3 months anyway. So live with it. Oh ya..the menteri besar's residence and the royal palace of dunno what is nearby the condo too! so cool, no? can bump into the royal highness's son and...whoa! wakaka.

Half a day outside, I can't help but to fall asleep on my favourite couch when i got back home~

What do you call a fish with no power?
IKANO POWER CENTER!

Cracks me up everytime i think of this joke. xoxo.

Lab Mice

I ♥ this photo!

I have no classes to attend this semester. Really, none. This seems to intrigue my friends a lot...those outside IMU, of course. And then I have to explain to them, ALL with loving kindness, that I'm undertaking a research project for semester 7. Yup, comes with a research grant and a full thesis to write up in the end *faint*

My gorgeous research partner♥ When it all ends, I'll dedicate a blog post for you la.

The research that I'm working on is related to cancer, which is like the second largest cause of mortality worldwide. And we all know that chemotherapy is a mainstay in the treatment of cancer. Despite it's therapeutic power, however, debates about the risk-benefit of chemotherapy and the patient's quality of life stems directly from the side effects of chemo. Therefore, there is always a need for the discovery of novel anti-cancer drugs - those bigger in its killing action against cancer cells but with lesser side effects.

One way in which we can speed up the process of discovery is by utilizing ethnophamacological data, whereby we choose to test on a plant based on known folklore uses of it. So this brings me to my research which involves a plant named Elephantopus mollis.

It is a plant quite popular in Malaysia. Local communities would brew the leaves of the plant and consume the juice for the prevention and treatment of cancer. Just how far are its purported benefits true? The answer to this question is the significant contribution of my research to the society..cheh wah^^

So yeah. We have approximately 3 months to find the answer (so short!) and now, I'm only close to completion by 70% -_- Want to know what I else I do in the research lab?

Mr Chan Kok Keong. Alias Charlie Chan! hehe. The name doesn't suit him i think =p

I'm used to spending late nights in the lab. Sometimes I only go back home the next afternoon! Sacrificing my beauty sleep in the name of research -_- You see what happened to these guys after midnight? Turned gay i suppose.

Kok Pun (L) earns Angeline's award for being the Most Quiescential Person she's ever met. The most I get from him is a word a day.

Hey, get busy people! Don't go on Facebook!

Eh eh...tak habis habis tengok Facebook.

Looking prim and proper.

We call this man here McBeast. He's there to protect me whenever I have labwork late at night. Thank you Tai Lo♥

I hear of a ghost lurking around in the lab. The ghost has a name too - Siti. Like ZOMG. I really hope I don't bump into her. But it seems she only appears in front of cute male researchers^^! So...hehe.

Have you guys watched Chuck? Hell funny!

Pinked Up

Update: Anybody interested in watching House Bunny with me?

Pink shirt. pink shoes. pink socks. pink water bottle. all pinked up to play badminton♥ haha. i'm enthusiastic about badminton these days...i don't know why. I pick up a racquet and go around the apartment asking my housemates whether they would like to join me for a game of badminton.

Me: Joyce, Jac. Badminton today?
Joyce: Eh cannot. I'm having dinner with my friends.
Jac: Sorry Angel. I have to study.
Me: Shi Hoay. How? Badminton in the evening?
Shi Hoay: EH!! I HAVE TO DO PBL!
Me: -_-!

(10 minutes later)

Me: Come let's play basketball. Court is empty^^
All: Sesat la you!

So when Joyce told me there's a small gathering with friends for badminton, i said "yes! I'd like to join in!" So that's what I did. Badminton on sunday evening. So syiok! I love that feeling you get after a good game of your favourite sport. Don't you feel the same way too? Endorphins make people happy♥

Also, it's a good opportunity to meet and make new friends. Oh how i love doing that! Lookie lookie at some of the photos taken at the Subang Soccer and Racquet Center (correct, no?).

the girl in yellow is good in badminton...jealous.

L-R: Me and Esther. Doubles.

This is Max. Everyone say hi to Max.

Gaya aksi yang hebat!

We played from like 8 to 10 something. I was sweating buckets already. But totally enjoying every moment spent in court. Next, we headed to Asia Cafe for supper!

See? I'm camera shy leh *ahem* Shi Hoay's on diet. Refused to eat. That woman arr...someone tell her that skipping meals ain't good, will ya?

Only after I reached home, did I realize how tired I really was and that my arm hurts badly -_-

Aha! So I found these photos taken at Mumbo Jambo on Facebook. I hope Miss Yue Lyn wouldn't mind me putting these up^^ After all, sharing is caring♥

People have commented that I have evil-looking eyes-_-

Argh! I hate to hear that!

Tadaa~ there. Only three photos with me in it. Thank god these photos are safe to look at, judging by my 'wild' conduct that night.

I have to start working on my presentation soon...only 3 weeks more to prepare for it! Oh ya, my housemates are back^^ Things are going to more exciting around the apartment yeah♥

Update: Should i go to Poppy tomorrow night?

Semester 8 starts in December. And I hate to think that there's no semester holiday after I finish my research. IMU jahat~

Anyway, i need to look for a new place to stay soon. Help me! I've been posted to Seremban to undergo clinical training at Hospital Tunku Jafaar. Sigh. Why post me in a place so far away from KL! I prayed so hard for HTAR (in Klang; near my house) but I got this instead.

Dear God, what did i do wrong to deserve this?

I had BBQ for dinner! Not just any barbeque but korean BBQ=) Went with a friend who is also into all things korean. So together we go frenzy by everything and anything that is korean♥ I've never seen so many koreans in one place before, hearing them speak hangungmal to one another...Ampang is so like my new favorite place right now. Pass Ampang Point, you can find so many restaurants like this, serving fabulous korean cuisine.

This was taken after opening hours. Before that, the restaurant had many people lining up to eat in. Must be really good^^

We ate at this restaurant. Food was, in my opinion, not up to my expectations but I enjoyed it all the same. The price was a killjoy (!) with a bowl of rice costing up to 5 bucks. It better be the same rice the princess of korea eats. It was 145 bucks in total but my friend graciously paid it all hehe xoxo♥

The entrance of the restaurant..looks gloomy=(

After dinner and a bout of complaining, we walked into a korean mart. And...wahh~

So many different types and brands of instant noodles to choose from. I think korean noodles are better than maggi, though only second place to the Japanese ones. Oishi~

I don't know what's this but it looks tempting to buy one and try for yourself^^!

Chocolate filling♥ Pink♥ I so wanted to buy this but...-_-

An aisle dedicated to nothing but korean snacks. This is heaven for a junkie like me but a nono. Imma on a diet.

Next stop. Mambo Jambo. It was my first time at MJ and the name fittingly describes the type of music played there which is an uncanny mix of the 70s and 80s pop hits with dance and hip hop sounds. IMO, it feels very retro there. Not the kind of music i dig but it didn't stop me from dancing my heart out♥

Unfortunately, i didn't bring my camera so no pictures. Boohoo~

Reached home about 4...and I had to do a 5-hour experiment at 9 with involves a test kit that sucks out 3000 bucks from my research grant. Say cheers to that. But I managed to pull through despite a spinning head and completed it with perfection. What can I say..I'm Angeline FGHS.

I've got some pictures to share. Quite random though. Here they are!

Shi Hoay bought me this key chain specially for me from HK. Love it not just because it's cute..it's pink too♥ And when you pull the tail...the bunny jiggles as its tail goes back up. Kawaii!

The latest love of my life - my pink lizard. With, of course, pink matching accessories! Everything pink for me♥

My handbag - one of my favourite ones. Salmon pink and 5 months old, it's a beautiful creation of a local designer. Support the local fashion industry, people! But costs me a lot as well...^^!

Everytime I wake up and look outside at the morning sky from my bedroom window, I see this.

So depressing to see IMU la-_-! cheh.

The wall near the kitchen. Names of friends.

Below it, the wall of quotes. See that, did you see that! Discrimination KILLS, not AIDS!

The blue pendrive Ivan gave me. Sweet but not sweet enough. Why? Not pink!

This is what I'd like to stick into my computer.

A Hello Kitty pen drive♥

Put some pink jewels behind it. At least something pink on ok!

My magnetic board beside my study table. Magnets with words of inspiration. A Hogwarts badge (made it myself for the orientation when i was supposed to dress up as Harry Potter). A printed email from miss gian wan. Litte note from my little sister and a sheet of my new year resolutions behind it.

Someone gave this to me as a gift! He knows i ♥ Hello Kitty or did i just say it too many times? So cute!

My pink yoga mat♥ Yes, I do yoga.

Hello Kitty clear bag. Pink with gold lining. Sadly, it's not used very often.

Yakitate! Japan♥ Watch Azuma Kazuma as he tries to make JaPan, a bread that will warm the hearts and bellies of the entire nation. Very nice anime. Go watch^^ I'm going to continue where I stopped now...only 9 episodes to go!

xoxo
